About Us

Since 1949, we have been mobilizing volunteers and connecting people, information, and services to build a strong caring community.  We believe this work requires the help of all who live here.  We promote volunteerism and engage the community in a variety of ways, allowing everyone in Battle Creek the chance and choice to be a part of the change.

Do you want to make a change in your community?  HandsOn Battle Creek works with that desire to be a part of something bigger, that drive for change, that aspiration to make a difference, and turns it into action through volunteering.  Through our programs, HandsOn strives to connect individuals to the many meaningful volunteer opportunities in our area.  Youth, adults, families, co-workers, and more can join together to help create a better Battle Creek for all.  So take the challenge.  Be the Change.  Volunteer.

Adult Volunteer Programming

Are you an adult looking to get involved in your community?  Or maybe a family who wants to give back?  Throughout the year, HandsOn Battle Creek provides opportunities for all ages to come together and volunteer.

HandsOn Battle Creek defines “family” broadly. Family volunteering can include a mom and dad with their children, grandparents with grandchildren, “families” of friends, neighbors, classmates or co-workers.  Families are encouraged to volunteer with an organization where you can give back while having fun.  Some great ways for both adults and families to give back include Make a Difference Day, United Way’s Days of Caring, Family Volunteer Day, Community BarnRaising, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and Global Youth Service Day.

Youth Volunteer Programming

HandsOn Battle Creek is working to actively engage youth in meaningful roles throughout the community by proving and promoting volunteerism, service-learning and youth engagement.  Our goal is to provide youth the tools and opportunities to be the change in their community.

We have a variety of opportunities available to meet the needs of all youth in our community.  We offer afterschool volunteer opportunities, school day service-learning, summer service and career exploration experiences, a weeklong service-learning camp, and an award and scholarship program to recognize those who have done outstanding service in the community.

Early involvement in volunteerism and service-learning has several benefits for young people.  According to the National Youth Leadership Council, adults who engaged in service-learning during their teenage years are more likely than their peers to attain a higher level of education and be politically and socially connected to their communities.

211 Call Center

Community Volunteer Awards

The Community Volunteer Awards were established 33 years ago to honor outstanding volunteers from across the Battle Creek community.  This event is about thanking one of America’s most valuable assets – our volunteers – and calling the public’s attention to all that they do to improve our communities.
